Rob Wilson MP and Bulmershe & Whitegates Borough Cllr Shahid Younis recently congratulated the pupils at The Bulmershe School who have recently received their GCSE exam results. The secondary school in Woodley had some positive results to celebrate with a substantial increase in the number of top grades achieved.
55 per cent of the Bulmershe pupils taking their GCSEs achieved 5 at A*-C including English and Maths in this year’s exams, whilst 78 per cent achieved A*-C in any subject. This was substantially higher than the 47.5% achieved in 2010 and is extremely positive news for the school. The results are comfortably above the national floor limit and above the forthcoming national target for schools of 50 per cent A*-C including English and Maths. This is the largest uplift in results in the schools history.
Rob said, ‘I am absolutely delighted for everyone involved with education at The Bulmershe School. These results are a reflection of the hard work that pupils, staff, governors and the local authority have put in over the past few years. I have to admit that it has been a few years since I had to sit what would have been my GCSEs, but I just about remember how much work goes into exam success. I particularly congratulate all those pupils who were part of this year’s marked improvement and I hope these results will continue to spur the school on and I am back next year congratulating this year’s Year 11s on an even better pass rate.
I know also that the local authority is continuing to work with the school to make improvements across the curriculum as well as learning and teaching skills for example. I hope we will soon see some new investment into the school also. The Bulmershe School has every chance to become an even higher performing local school and I will be doing as much as I can to support its continuing increases in attainment.”
