Works have been ongoing for weeks in and around Caversham Park Village to repair and replace gas pipes but local people have had to put up with not only their roads being dug up but also their front gardens. The company has left deep open ditches for weeks, surrounded by temporary barriers but now that the trenches are being filled in residents are unhappy that mud has been left on some streets and large quantities of bright green plastic barriers are still in place. In some cases barriers have been stacked and left propped against lamp posts and trees for weeks at a time.
The problem is particularly bad around Kingsway, Launceston Avenue and Harlech Avenue in Caversham Park Village. However, there are also locations elsewhere such as on Lowfield Road.
Jane Stanford-Beale said, “We all understand that repair and replacement works are necessary but these should be done as swiftly as possible and the utility companies should clear up properly behind them. It is not acceptable for ditches to be left open for weeks at a time and the streets should be properly cleaned afterwards.”
Jane has written to the Council Head of Highways to ask that the area is inspected and that the companies responsible are made to undertake the necessary clean up.
