Alison Swaddle said " As Chairman of Reading East Conservatives I am proud of the Conservative candidate team standing for this year's elections on May 5th in Reading, Earley and Woodley.
It is difficult in this challenging economic climate for hard working people to give their time, energy and skills to serve their community as a borough or town councillor. So I'm very pleased that locally Conservatives have a fine selection of committed individuals from a wide range of backgrounds seeking to represent communities across the constituency. It is notable that other parties have struggled to find people to stand in every seat at town level where councillors receive no allowances.
I am also delighted to see Conservatives in our wider area working together on several projects. The most significant was the creation of the Thames Valley Berkshire Local Enterprise Partnership.
All six of Berkshire's local authorities worked on its formation, but David Lee, Leader of Conservative Wokingham Council, and Andrew Cumpsty, Leader of the Conservative led Coalition Council of Reading, were at the forefront of making this happen.
Our LEP was in the first tranche to be approved by Government, showing once again Conservatives working strongly together across boundaries for the good of the people they represent.
The LEP in Berkshire is leading the way in the UK and will ensure that Reading and the Berkshire area will build on its economic success, becoming the centre in the UK for enterprise, business and skills.
Tories working together helped to bring this about."
