Reading Conservatives warmly congratulate the new Mayor of Reading Cllr Jenny Rynn. Pictured before the meeting are the 12 councillors of Reading's Conservative Group who are united in their determination to Reading and to hold the Labour controlled council to account. Newly elected Councillors Jane Stanford-Beale ( Peppard ) and Ed Hopper ( Thames) were welcomed to the team at the first meeting of the year.
At the Annual Meeting of Reading Borough Council on Wednesday the Conservative Group Leader Cllr Tim Harris nominated Conservative Councillor for Kentwood Jenny Rynn to become the new Mayor of Reading. Cllr Jeanette Skeats seconded the nomination.
Tim said that he had great pleasure that in this year, the year of the Olympics, the year of the Diamond Jubilee he proposed Cllr Jenny Rynn as Mayor of Reading.
Tim spoke of Jenny’s social conscience, and how her travels have affected her views on political life. She spent six years in South Africa when her ex-husband had a job there and she was there during the Soweto riots. The reason that Cllr Rynn came into politics was very personal to her and her father. Cllr Rynn felt that to make changes she really should get involved – and that’s what she did.
Jenny was born in Tilehurst and went to school at Grovelands Primary School and Alfred Sutton Girls’ School. She went to Palmer Park every Sunday - where her father was a member of our local athletics club – she even learned to swim at the Kings Meadow baths. Her first job was at Lloyds Bank in Broad Street and she has always worked in accounts and finance. Cllr Rynn’s current job is in internal finance at Deloitte in Reading and her company is extremely supportive and they are allowing her to work round the role as mayor.
Jenny has a deep knowledge of our town, our local people, our buildings and our history. Tim believes that this history was important in helping Cllr Rynn get elected and in her role as a councillor - to Kentwood ward in 2006 after a huge amount of hard work, – the first Conservative Cllr in Kentwood for some years.
As a councillor she has had many roles ranging from the unenviable task of being Whip through to being the Conservative Spokesperson on Police.
The charities that Cllr Rynn will be supporting ( Alzheimer's Society chosen in memory of her father who died three years ago and Daisy’s Dream) are very personal to her and a testament to how Jenny works selflessly to serve our community.
Having served her year very well as deputy mayor in 2010, Tim is confident that she will serve the people of Reading excellently as our Mayor.
