Rob Wilson, Member of Parliament for Reading East, met with GCSE Citizenship pupils at The Bulmershe School on Friday and was quizzed on everything from tuition fees to the legal drinking age.
Mr Wilson visited the school after receiving a raft of emails and letters from pupils completing their Citizenship projects. The MP spent over an hour fielding questions from around 30 pupils and afterwards said he was “impressed” by the level of preparation.
Questions included how the Government would ensure tuition fees didn’t discourage students from poorer families from attending university, whether the legal age for drinking alcohol should be increased to 21 and how to encourage wider use of Fair Trade products.
“It was a pleasure to meet with the pupils of The Bulmershe School. The standard of the questions levelled at me showed a real maturity and gave me a good deal to think about,” Mr Wilson said. “I wish them all well with their continuing studies.”
Amjad Ali, Citizenship Teacher at the Bulmershe School, said: “Rob Wilson provided an excellent insight into the work of an MP for our GCSE Citizenship Students. We were delighted for him to answer questions to help put our students on the right track with their active Campaign.”
