Rob Wilson MP is holding a public meeting to bring relevant parties from South Oxfordshire, Wokingham and Reading together to discuss a third Thames bridge. The meeting is at 7.30 pm on Thursday 6 February at Highdown School.
For decades there have been calls for a third river crossing but to date no agreement has been reached. We hope that by bringing together representatives from all three authorities we will start the process of actually listening to what local people on both sides of the border want and find an accommodation between them that works.
The massive congestion and delays suffered by motorists and residents as a result of Sonning Bridge’s recent closure has not been limited to Reading East constituents in Caversham, Reading and Woodley, but also to John Howell MP’s constituents in the Henley and Sonning Eye area and Theresa May MP’s constituents in Sonning.
As Rob has highlighted before, too great a reliance is put on Sonning’s one-lane bridge. The sustainable way forward, which would take pressure off Sonning Bridge and provide a more direct route across the river, is for a third Thames bridge with a Caversham bypass.
The meeting will be in the sports hall at Highdown School & Sixth Form Centre which is on Surley Row, Emmer Green, RG4 8LR.
