Woodley Conservatives want to make all local residents aware of the open Public Meeting being held tonight at The Oakwood Centre on Headley Road RG5 4JZ at 6.30pm for 7pm start.
The LPA Area Commander, Christian Bunt will be at this meeting to update you on the recent burglaries in the area, specifically where gold jewellery has been targeted and will take questions.
Also represented will be members of the Neighbourhood Police team and Crime Reduction.
Rob and Conservative Wokingham Borough Councillor, Shahid Younis, joined Thames Valley Police’s Winter Burglary Campaign in the Woodley Precinct recently. Both Rob and Cllr Younis have been contacted by residents in the Woodley and Earley area raising concerns about burglaries and they saw this as a perfect opportunity to talk directly to the local community as well as pass on Police advice on how to protect your home. Asian families have been a particular target in recent months, as thieves believe these homes often contain items made of gold.
One of the aims of the day was to encourage the use of community messaging and Neighbourhood Watch schemes whilst reassuring shoppers that the Police are working hard to combat crime in the local area. There were also warnings against leaving homes in darkness during the winter months.
Rob commented, “When talking about local issues with constituents, crime is always one of the biggest issues that is regularly brought up, especially burglaries. Events like this one jointly organised with Thames Valley Police are a great opportunity for me to hear the concerns of my constituents, whilst also having the opportunity to dispel some of their fears. I really would encourage my constituents to heed the advice handed out. Something as simple as keeping a light on can really make a difference in your home security.”
