Reading East Conservative Association's Executive Council met yesterday evening and agreed to re-adopt Rob Wilson as the Conservative candidate at the 2015 General Election. Alison Swaddle, Chairman of Reading East Conservatives, said " We are delighted to unanimously re-adopt Rob Wilson as our Parliamentary Candidate. Rob has proved to be an outstanding MP who works tirelessly for the people of Reading East."
Rob has a long history in Reading, having attended Reading University and then made the town his home. He was elected to Reading Borough Council in 2003 for Caversham ward, having fought the ward in several previous years, and beat Labour to make the first Conservative gain for many years.
Rob won the Reading seat in 2005 by fewer than 500 votes. At the 2010 General Election Rob was re-elected by the people of Reading East with a signifcantly increased majority of over 7,600 pushing Labour into third place behind the Lib Dems.
Rob has a great track record as a very active and hard working local MP with deep roots in the local community. He has four children who attend local state schools and he lives with his family in the constituency he serves.
In the recent re-shuffle Rob turned down the offer of a post in the Whips Office because he believes it is very important that he continues to speak in the House of Commons for Reading East and strongly represent his constituents. Rob holds weekly advice surgeries and responds to hundreds of letters each month.
The Association strongly supports Rob and will be working hard to ensure his return to Westminster in 2015. Labour will have an uphill struggle to dislodge him.
